Mukwa, also known as Umvagazi, is widespread in woodland around Southern Zimbabwe where it reaches unusually large sizes.  It is renowned for the quality of its wood and is used for carvings, dugout canoes and paddles and to make mortars for crushing grain. Its beautiful texture and inherent markings make it ideal for creating decorative wooden art.
